Other words for common actions – writing tips

In looking to improve my writing skills, I have compiled several lists of alternative words. I found myself using general descriptors for common and often repeated character actions. Where using words like looked does the job, changing it to something that better expresses the mood/feelings of the character will make your writing stronger—more engaging. It also allows you to provide more color and less repetition to your work.
